Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a visit to the DuPont BBQ Cookoff? Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.

Is there an admission charge?
No. Admission to the DuPont BBQ Cookoff is free. Come enjoy the competition, live music, vendor marketplace and family activities throughout the weekend.

When and where is the BBQ Cookoff?
The 9th Annual DuPont BBQ Cookoff is August 21–23, 2026, at Clocktower Park in DuPont, Washington.

What are the overall event hours?
Saturday and Sunday, noon until 5 PM. But let’s be honest. Pitmasters have to prepare everything fresh on site each day. Most live a good distance from DuPont, and so they bring their offerings in coolers. Their capacity is limited, so you can almost bet they will run out of food between 3:30 and 4:00 PM. But that’s okay. Come early, get full, then enjoy the beer garden and live music.

What is the best time to visit if I want to eat a lot of samples?
Best times are noon until 3:30 PM on Saturday and 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM on Sunday.

How do I purchase BBQ samples?
When you arrive, go first to the American Legion tent. They will be selling “BBQ Bucks,” coupon tickets that the cooks redeem for food. Each BBQ Buck costs $3.00.

Where can I park?
Parking is available within walking distance at Chloe Clark Elementary School on Palisade Boulevard just north of the park and at the Park & Ride on Wilmington Drive. Please follow the event parking signs.

Is transportation available from the parking areas?
Yes. Lakes High School Army JROTC cadets will operate shuttles throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. Feel free to flag them down if you’d rather ride than walk.

What are the children’s activities? Is there a cost?
There is a 16’ inflatable triple lane slide, a 10’ water slide, mini basketball, skee ball, and a giant ring toss. Add to that Tangerine Tales Facepainting and glitter tattoos. No charge!

Is the event pet friendly?
The short answer is yes. BUT, the event will be crowded. We expect over 2,500 people each day, with everyone trying to enjoy everything. Your dog (no, don’t bring your snake or pet iguana) must be well trained and calm. And think about the poor dog, too. If you were on his paws, would you want all those people stepping on you?

So, the answer is yes, but please make sure your pet is calm, well mannered, and you keep it under control at all times. And I shouldn’t have to remind you—as a responsible pet owner, clean up after your pet. Always.

What happens if it rains?
The event goes on regardless of weather. Actually, BBQ smoke smells better in the rain. This is the Northwest, people. We’re used to it.

What is happening Friday night?
Friday evening features our BBQ Banquet from 6:00–8:30 PM with Texas Style Brisket, Pulled Pork & Sides, live music by the Paul Johnson Quartet, and beverages available from Happy Camper Cocktail Company. Banquet tickets are $40.

Where does the money raised by the event go?
The DuPont BBQ Cookoff is organized by American Legion Post 53. Proceeds help support the Post’s programs serving veterans, youth and the local community.
